First off, I owe my blog an apology. Yes I know my blog is not an actual living breathing person, but it helps if I think of it as such. You see, I would never neglect a friend in the same way I have my blog. Sure, my excuses are all good; spring break,  my WIP, kid’s tennis meets, etc.  Still, I make time for what’s important, isn’t that the point?

Is this blog important to me? Absolutely.

Not only does it keep me writing, beyond my sometimes daunting novel edits, but it also lets me hear from all of you; my fellow blog-mates, writers, and readers.

Writing can be such an isolated undertaking; alone typing away on my laptop, just me and my cup of joe. Except, not really, as long as I make the small effort to post at least once a week or so.

So sorry my dear, dear blog…

Okay, I’ve been pretty busy lately and need to apologize. Two of my favorite bloggers have nominated me for a Versatile Blogger Award, Dennis Langley and M. J. Wright and it’s taken me some time to thank them and pass it on.

Thanks to both of you. It’s always great to know that someone is reading your stuff and doesn’t think it’s total drivel.

So now, according to the rules of the award, I’m to tell you some previously unknown info about myself.

  1. I’ve sold cars. Yes, I know, some were even used cars. The worst part about it? I had fun.
  2. I don’t really like chocolate, gasp.
  3. My favorite ice cream flavor is Black Licorice. I really hate what it does to your mouth though. Black tongue? Not appealing.
  4. I’m addicted to BBC America. If I didn’t live in the US, I’d probably just be addicted to BBC.
  5. If given the choice between a quick flight and a long drive, I’d choose the drive. I love road trips.
  6. I’m a political junky. I love debates, watching them not having them, usually. But don’t worry, they are a secret passion, not to be aired on this blog. Can I hear an Amen?
  7. I’m addicted to caffeine. I know, probably not much of a surprise.

The best part of this award? I get to pass it on. Here they are in no particular order.

  1. The Color Lime
  2. Bridges Are For Burning
  3. The Others1
  4. Judee
  5. IronWoodWind
  6. Madison Woods
  7. M.Pax
  8. Jonesin’ After 40
  9. The Short and Long of it
  10. J.M.Harrison

Ever had a bad week? If you’re the artistic type, I’m sure it’s happened. The down day, week, month can take on various forms. From lack of inspiration, sometimes called writer’s block, to self-doubt or even, heaven forbid, not handling criticism well.

As a writer, it’s hard for me to separate from my work, meaning that I often take criticism personally. This is especially true if I think I’ve been particularly brilliant only to find that something was lost in translation. After all, I knew what I meant!

Ah well, back to the rewrite, aiming to toughen up my prose as well as my skin.

Set goals for 2012

Eschewing the usual New Year’s resolutions, I decided to christen this the year of serious writing. Knowing to aim for the stars while hoping for a moon landing, I set some fairly lofty goals.

1. Write one-thousand words a day (this has morphed into write something every day, while still striving for the thousand)
2. Start a website/blog
3. Finish my novel, at least the rough draft
4. Write a minimum of three short stories for submission-gulp-and actual submit them; somewhere, anywhere.
5. Most importantly, start each day new. Don’t get hung up on the previous day’s successes or failures. Persevere, always moving forward.

What are your goals? Have you made any?
